First of all, unless you are an old-school, die hard Marvel fan, don’t even act like you are familiar with Ant-Man. Yes, you know he helped form the Avengers, but what else do you know? Also, don’t assume this is intending to be a dark and gritty comic book movie like so many have been. Edgar Wright is directing it. Yes, Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz Edgar Wright. So it is campy and based on the 1950’s ideals that were kicked in when the character was first introduced. For those reasons, I will now tell you why Marvel getting Paul Rudd to play Ant-Man is a genius move.
Because it’s Paul Rudd.
Is there any other actor in Hollywood right now who can pull off ” kind of stupid”, yet still remain likable? No, there’s not. There is also a goofy innocence to him that will work really well in that time period. Understand something. His name is Ant-Man. That should kind of tell you what era he represents and what you should be expecting. Basically, a modernized take on The Incredible Shrinking Man. With Edgar Wright on board, getting Paul Rudd to play Ant-Man just shows the direction this is going, and that it will probably be awesome.
More over at NY Daily News, but not really because they put black bars over half the article. Seriously. Why do they do that?
