A new year, a new day, and a new internet trend. The first trend has arrived and is taking over the internet as we speak! What could it be? A dress? A challenge? A cute candid of a Target worker?
If you guessed an app, you are correct! ‘Stolen’ has been making its way over social media the past couple days and is leaving people all over the world in a specific scavenger hunt.
The point of the app is to simply “steal” people’s Twitter accounts and to be stolen yourself. You start out the game with a certain amount of coins and you gain more coins by the stealing that goes around in your account.
Seems pretty simple until you download the app and it doesn’t let you play. To be granted access to play this game, you have to have an invite code (unless you are a verified Twitter account, which in that case you just have to connect accounts). When you create an account and are granted access, you automatically get one invite code.
With only one invite code given per account, the hunt is on to find someone willing to give you the mixture of numbers and letters that grants you access to the world of stealing Twitter accounts. Social media has been taken over with adults and teens trying desperately, doing whatever it takes for a code.
Some users have gone as far as selling a single code on eBay for up to 10 USD.
With the app quickly gaining attention, the price to steal your favorite Twitter account is rising drastically. Justin Bieber, for example, was recently stolen for over 50,000,000 coins when just three days ago you could snag him for 2,000,000.
Stolen is currently only available in the iTunes app store but a beta version for Androids will be released soon.
